In order to display my models I have begun building a dioramma. The setting is a road construction project including a roundabout, slip road, bridge construction and a river crossing. The fictitional project is at the early earthmoving stage with multiple adt's and excavators.
This will be an ongoing page and eventually I may even finish it!
The framework was built using 1.5inch frame work covered with 0.5inch chipboard. In these shots I have roughly layed out the final position of some of the machines. I then begun cutting foam to shape and fixing it to the board. This will eventually be covered with plaster and painted.
A CAT 325BL excavates stone from the river bed (eventually) and places the material up on the riverbank. This is then lifted by the CAT 320C and placed into the waiting adt's. In this case the Moxy MT27 hauls its load away as a CAT 725 backs in to recieve its load.
A closer view of the Moxy pulling up hill from the river bed.
A rear view of the Moxy. The layout is an L shape design and is around 10ft long by 6ft wide.
An over view of the river site. Here the two surveyers have their Landrover parked at the water's edge whilst they access the ongoing work.
The surface of the road outside the site has now been added to the diaramma, although it still requires some road markings.
The low loader can be seen here hauling a brand new Moxy onto the site.
An overview of the site with the new JCB in the left of the picture.
On the right the new steel yard can just be seen.
A second view of the site clearly showing the steel yard.
The area in front of it will become the site compound.
I am currently building a fence for it.
The car garage on the right of the picture has the new roadway in front of it.
A close up of 'unit 4'.
This will become a car garage and will be wethered relevently.
A closer view of 'UK Steel'.
In the fore ground is a newly added Moffet fork lift along with the works van and assorted junk.
Although built in low relief, these buildings will offer some dimension to the completed layout.

Although there is still a lot to do on the diaramma, progress is afoot.
I finally got round to building a small compound for the site.
Simple construction included balsa wood and large match sticks and a coat of white wash paint.
The floor was then covered with saw dust (as gravel) and various yard junk scattered around.
Another part of the site is shown here as the worker enters the loo!
This was scratch built and painted accordingly.
The photo above features another portaloo, this time with an open door and visable toilet!
