Easter Monday, 09/04/07.
Although closed for the easter break, I had a great opportunity to photo some great plant in the yard of 'Colton - Plant Hire' of County Durham.
Colton's are noted for both their wide range of plant available and also the impressive low loaders they run.
Here I am in front of a CAT 375excavator.
The nose end of a CAT D5H lies in the yard. The CAT 375 is in the background.
A CAT 953C lies quietly in the yard.
Although difficult to see through the fence, here lies a long reach boom from a CAT 325.
In one side of the Colton yard there was a fleet of Komatsu 'rubber ducks'. (Komatsu are located approx 1 mile from the Colton yard) Some are in Customer livery already. Colton also carry out plant haulage and I presume these were to be delivered by Colton.
The far corner of the yard turned up a 'scrap' pile including tracks, buckets, dozer blades and many other treasures.
A view from outside the yard gates.
A brand new Komatsu HM300 ADT stands alone whilst Colton's two Volvo low loaders are pictured on the right.
A final shot of the Colton yard.
Excavators, dozers, site dumpers and low loaders can all be seen in this shot.
A couple of miles from Coltons yard lies the remediation site of 'Lumley coke works'.
Colton have won the contract on this particular job and have dozens of pieces of plant on site.
Another view from outside the site.
Colton have a 100% Volvo adt fleet on this job and have in the region of 14 adt's on site.
A wider view of the site to show some of the excavator fleet. Komatsu machines dominate this job.
A shot taken a little closer. This time you can make out tractors and hopefully the two CAT dozers.
Located in the town of Hartlepool, UK is a huge house building project. The development is at various stages with both site clearence and building works occuring.
Loads of plant is working the site including dozers, rollers, adt's and excavators.
Once the site clearance was complete, this Case CX130 digs the foundations for housing.
Another part of the site was just being cleared and this excavator was kept busy, feeding a fleet of 5 Volvo adt's on the short haul.
Once loaded it was a haul of 30 seconds to the tip site!
The adt's reversed up the small hillside and emptied the topsoil for the dozer to level.
Doing its thing!
90% of the time there was at least 2 adt's tipping!
Another shot of the adt's.
All the plant on this part of the site was supplied by Colton's. (See Site visits page 1 for a visit to Coltons yard).
Like the excavator, the Cat D6 was kept busy on site.
Yet another Volvo arrives!
Coltons D6 earning its keep.
It has to be said that this particular guy was a great operator and knew just how far to push the machine.
Continuing round the site I came accross this lone Liebherr dozer at work.
Right into the site now and I found this Volvo excavator and lone Terex working to bring the earth down to the required level.
The Terex receiving another bucket.
Once loaded it was a 20 metre haul!
Shorter than the Volvo's!
A short haul and it was a reverse up the stock pile.
Begginning to tip.
Fully raised and ready for another load.
Finally, making space in the site compound was this fairly new JCB with 0 tailswing.
0 tailswing models are catching on quickly in the UK and we can expect to see more of such examples in the future.
